Kindergarten Parent Pack Information
Check out the areas below for special information about: Supplies, Communications, Homework, Nutrition Break, Lunch, Quiet Time, Birthday Celebrations, Parties, Parent Involvement
Our classroom will have pencils, scissors, paper, glue and crayons that your child will be able to use in the classroom. I will provide each student with a two-pocket Parent Communication Folder to bring home notes and to return work to school. Some extra helpful supplies are:
Please label all supplies that come to school. Thanks.
The key to a successful school year is communication. We are a team. The team members are students, parents and the teacher. When working together we form a solid triangle to ensure success. Everyone is an important member of our team. If one piece is missing in the triangle, it isn't a triangle, so please communicate with me. Parent Communication Folder will be sent home daily. Please review the papers in the "pockets". The papers that are in the pocket that says "Return to School" need to be returned to me the next day, or on the date marked on the paper. The "Keep at Home" pocket needs to be emptied each night so that I will be able to put more materials in it. Weekly notes will be sent home on Mondays to keep you informed of our weekly curriculum, activities and special needs for the week. Daily or individual notes will be sent home as needed in the Parent Communication Folder. Phone calls, conferences and emails will be made to address any specific concerns, problems, or progress that arise and need to be discussed or shared with you. If during the year you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. I am glad to meet with you anytime.
Homework sent home always has a purpose. It will compliment our curriculum, encourage fundamental physical development and encourage interaction within the family. At times, students don't complete an activity at school or wish to have "homework". Homework that needs to be returned to school will have a note attached to it to let you know of its importance. All other "homework" was student desired and does not need to be sent to school unless your child would like to share it with others. Homework menus will be sent home on Mondays and should be returned by Thursday of the same week. Please plan to spend 15-20 minutes each night doing homework with your child.
A proper diet helps students concentrate better at school. Drinking water is a simple way to keep the body and mind refreshed and alert. We have a drinking fountain in our classroom so students will not need to bring a water bottle. Nutritious snacks in the morning and afternoon also help keep students focused and functioning at their best level. It's hard to concentrate on learning when your tummy's rumbling. Snacks for nutrition break should be limited in sugar so candy, cookies and other desserts are not allowed. Recommended snacks are: cheese, fruit, fruit juice, crackers or raw vegetables. Snack is only 5 minutes so please don't send in too much food. For students bringing lunch, please label snack bags "snack" so students will know what to eat for lunch.
Since Developmental Kindergarten is a full day program, students will be able to stay for lunch. The children will eat their lunches in the cafeteria. A monthly menu of hot lunches will be sent home. Children will be allowed to choose their own lunches from the offered selections. To help children in making this decision, you may want to review the selections with your child in the morning. Please send in a note if your student is going home for lunch. If your child is going home for lunch, please return to school on time for the afternoon session.
Kindergarten students will have a 30-minute quiet time each day after lunch. Please send a labeled bath towel for your child. The towel will be stored in a large, individual plastic bag when not being used. Towels will be sent home several times throughout the year to be washed.
Birthday celebrations are always a special occasion in kindergarten. Birthday treats may be brought in for the classroom. Please plan for 24 students.
We will celebrate the following holidays with parties: Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day. Each student will be asked to contribute treats or paper goods for one of the parties. Throughout the year, we will have special activities that will require food or paper goods. Some of the special activities are Thanksgiving Feast and 100s Day. Sign-up sheets will be sent home for families to volunteer a snack donation.
Parents are a very important part of our classroom to help the students grow academically and socially. This year we will work together to provide your child with activities, which will encourage language development, motor skills, social skills and academic skills. If you can volunteer please let me know. There are many tasks for volunteers and I will try to find one that best fits your needs. Volunteers may work at home or at school. All Parent Volunteers must complete and return the district's volunteer form before being able to help in the classroom...even for parties. Thanks for your cooperation.
